Chihiro Art Museum Collection Original Artwork of Million-Seller Picture Books and Children’s Book Illustrators from around the World

A high-quality picture book, as it is passed on by parents to their children through reading aloud, and becomes a million-copy seller, is something which is loved by many people even today. As the pages of the book are turned, the pictures and stories which appear arouse children’s curiosity and raise their powers of imagination, cultivating a more richly-developed sensitivity.

This exhibition presents the originals of 120 picture books from 70 authors from about 18 countries around the world, including winners of internationally acclaimed awards such as the Hans Christian Andersen Award and the Biennale of Illustrations Bratislava (BIB) award. The works include the originals of million-copy seller picture books from the Chihiro Art Museum collection.

In this heart-warming scene which will remain in your mind, where any visitor can rediscover pictures they remember seeing before and re-read phrases they remember hearing before, we invite everyone to enjoy a world created by currently active picture book writers-a world which allows us to carry on the tradition of reading picture books to children.
