André Bauchant et Grandma Moses

André Bauchant, who worked as a gardener in the Loire region in the central part of France; Grandma Moses, who as a farmer’s wife ran farming households in the states of Virginia and New York in the United States. Bauchant was 48 years old when he first displayed his works at the Salon d’Automne, a Parisian art gallery, where they caught the eye of an art theorist. Moses was 79 when she became known to the world, after her works were displayed at an exhibition of contemporary unknown painters in New York. Both Bauchant and Moses had painted as sidelines to their main occupations, but it was not until the later part of their lives that they were recognized as artists and began their full-fledged artistic endeavors. The works of these two people, who portrayed the nature that they saw around them and the events which went on regularly every day, are much loved for their simplicity. Perhaps their attraction lies in their ability to soothe the hearts of those who see them. This exhibition, showing 47 works by Bauchant and 22 by Moses, takes those who see it into the heart-warming world of these nature-loving artists.
